CRS in Kolkata, as well as the Friends of CRS groups in the UK and Canada, all welcome volunteers to help in practical ways, particularly with fundraising and outreach. The latest volunteer opportunities are posted here.
2017 – Fundraising help for Nari Dana and Tabitha Living
CRS has established a social enterprise in Kolkata called Nari Dana, meaning Women’s Wings. This business employs slum women who have been trained in sewing and embroidery to make products which can be sold both in India and on overseas markets, particularly the UK.
There is a core team of 30 women working under a Production Manager. A production centre has been established and new industrial sewing machines donated; the women are currently being trained to produce high-quality products. Some of the products will be sold through Tabitha Living, a web-based business in the UK.
Both Nari Dana and Tabitha Living need to raise additional funding. We are nearly there, but need the extra finance to get both businesses up and running. We are looking for someone with enthusiasm and an interest in fundraising to help apply for small grants from organisations with money to give away such as the Department for International Development (DFID) and charitable trusts.
Could you spend a few hours every week helping to identify possible sources of funding, find out what is needed to apply for grants, and prepare the applications? It may be necessary in some cases to go and see potential donors. You will not be expected to work on your own, but as part of the CRS team.
This role would suit a young person who is thinking of working in international development, perhaps someone in a gap year pre or post university. No previous experience is needed, but creative writing skills, internet skills, as well as persuasion and charm will be a help.
