About the area
Geonkhali is a village located in the Purba Mindapur district, 130km south of Kolkata. Domestic issues are common in this area, including the exploitation of women. There is a 75% illiteracy rate in the area. Launched in May 2020, this project is linked with Prabhu Jesu Mondir CNI Church, Diocese of Calcutta.
Current CRS programmes
A women’s empowerment programme consists of certificate courses in tailoring and embroidery, helping to provide women with skills, confidence and empowerment.
A child development programme provides coaching support for children in the area. Nutrition is also an area of focus, with supplements provided for the children.
Support for this young initiative is urgently needed, so that women and children in the area can continue to benefit.
