About the area
Sex work or prostitution is legal in India, and widely regarded as having one of the world’s largest commercial sex industries. Kolkatahas many red-light districts, out of which Sonagachi is the largest red-light district in Asia.
Children of commercial sex workers (CSWs) are the victims of social discrimination, like their mothers, and suffer from inferiority complex, social alienation and lead a poor quality of life.
Current CRS programmes
Education
- Educational support for Focus on pre-primary & primary school going age group.
- Caters to children of sex workers within the age group 3-13 years.
- Curriculum is based on Joyful learning
- Monthly meeting
Health
The health programme works in conjunction with other programme to improve the health of the entire community. The programme consists of the following:
- Health for children and the mothers with distribution of medicines
- Nutrition Supplement Programme
- Referral to the hospitals.
- Health Camps
- Awareness programmes
